Last month, we had the pleasure of presenting at the 2024 SK/MB Canadian Mineral Processors Regional Conference in Saskatoon. Kevin Heppner presented on modelling rare earth element solvent extraction (REE SX) using the TCE interface in SysCAD with PHREEQC.
The presentation, co-authored by Brett Schug, highlighted a methodology for accurately predicting REE SX plant performance using a combination of thermodynamic data, solvent extraction isotherms and separation factors. By adjusting variables such as solutions flows, cell count and saponification extent, we can predict the expected impacts on REE separation performance – a powerful tool for REE SX circuit design, operation and optimisation!
The model uses thermodynamic calculations from PHREEQC, developed by USGS via the SysCAD thermodynamic calculation engine (TCE) add-on.
Thanks to the organisers for a great event! It was fantastic to see a diverse range of presentations from industry professionals, vendors and academic researchers showcasing the latest trends, projects and technologies. We look forward to continuing our attendance at this annual meeting.
