Earlier this month we had the opportunity to present at the Geochemical Modelling: PHREEQC and Beyond conference and course in Washington, DC.
PHREEQC is a thermodynamic package developed by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for aqueous geochemical calculations. Kevin Heppner presented “PHREEQC in SysCAD – Applications in Mineral Processing”, demonstrating surface complexation, ion exchange, and solubility calculations in PHREEQC via the SysCAD TCE interface. The presentation showcased applications in lithium, rare earths, potash, and water treatment.
It was great to see a wide range of other presentations on different uses for PHREEQC, including environmental restoration, geochemical assessments, mining applications, and groundwater flow calculations. The accompanying course, led by PHREEQC co-authors David Parkhurst and Tony Appelo, provided practical insights into PHREEQC best practices.
We are grateful to the organisers of the meeting and look forward to further advancing the use of PHREEQC in SysCAD!
